In Rayagada district, a tragic incident has occurred where a 9-year-old student from a government-run residential Ashram school has passed away due to malaria. This is the second such death involving a student residing in a residential school in the district within a week, causing great concern and sadness among the community. The young boy, Jayasen Kandagari, was the son of Johan Kandagiri and hailed from Badakasipadu village in the district.
He was a student in Class IV at the SSD Government High School located in Atada, in the Rayagada block. According to officials, Jayasen started experiencing fever on July 5 and was immediately taken to the Jemadeipentha Community Health Centre for treatment by the hostel matron and school authorities. However, as his condition worsened, he was transferred to the Rayagada District Headquarters Hospital on July 7 and later to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Brahmapur.
Despite receiving treatment, he tragically passed away on Tuesday morning. The Chief District Medical Officer of Rayagada, Dr Prashant Kumar Mishra, shared that the health department has been informed of the student's death due to malaria. As a result, Dr Ruma Mahapatra and Dr Mamata Sahu have been tasked with conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
The team will be visiting the school hostel and examining the situation before submitting a detailed report. Dr Mishra also mentioned that appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law once the inquiry findings are received. This devastating incident comes just a week after another Class IV student, Chandu Ula ka, from Suri Upper Primary School in the Kolnara block, also lost his life to malaria on July 7.
The entire district is mourning the loss of these young lives and the community is in a state of shock. The authorities are working to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future and necessary steps will be taken to prevent any further tragedies. The people of Rayagada are praying for the families of the deceased and hope that they find the strength to cope with this heartbreaking loss.
This incident serves as a reminder to everyone of the importance of taking preventive measures against malaria and other diseases, and to seek immediate medical attention in case of any health concerns.
