A priest was arrested for stealing bikes and the police have found 24 two-wheelers in his possession.
On Friday, Bhubaneswar's Commissionerate Police made a major breakthrough by apprehending a priest, Krupasindhu Mohapatra, on charges of bike theft. The police had received numerous complaints about stolen two-wheelers and after a thorough investigation, they were able to recover 24 stolen bikes from Mohapatra's possession. The accused, who resides in the Janla area, would perform religious rituals at a temple near his home in the morning and then engage in bike thefts later in the day, as revealed by Commissioner of Police Sanjeeb Panda in a press conference held here.

Commissioner Panda further informed the media that the police had been on the lookout for Mohapatra since April 6, when a resident named Niranjan Singh reported that his bike had been stolen from the parking lot of Capital Hospital at around 4:30 pm. Through CCTV footage, the police were able to identify Mohapatra as the culprit, fleeing with Singh's two-wheeler. Upon further investigation, it was found that Mohapatra had a history of targeting parking lots in the city. He had stolen bikes from popular locations like AIIMS, Apollo Hospitals, Kalinga Hospitals, and BMC Mall, and would then sell them to potential buyers.

Interestingly, this was not the first time Mohapatra had come under the police's radar. He had been arrested by the Capital police a month ago for a minor offense. As per Commissioner Panda, the accused has now been charged under Sections 379 and 413 of the IPC. The police have also urged the public to come forward and report any similar incidents or provide any information that could assist in the investigation.

This arrest has brought a sense of relief to the residents of Bhubaneswar, who had been living in fear due to the increasing number of bike thefts in the city. The police have also advised people to be cautious and take necessary precautions to protect their vehicles from such crimes. The Commissionerate Police will continue to take strict action against those involved in these illegal activities and ensure the safety and security of the citizens.
