Roxy Shahidi, one of the stars of Dancing On Ice, recently opened up about a terrifying injury she suffered during training. The 40-year-old Emmerdale actress is set to join the likes of Ryan Thomas and Adele Roberts in the popular ITV competition, with Holly Willoughby returning as host alongside Stephen Mulhern. But as the contestants prepare to showcase their skating skills in front of judges Jayne Torvill, Christopher Dean, Ashley Banjo, and Oti Mabuse, there have already been some unfortunate injuries that have caused two contestants to drop out of the competition entirely.
Gogglebox star Stephen Lustig-Webb was forced to withdraw after breaking his left ankle, while Tippy Pickard also had to leave after a training mishap. And now, Roxy has revealed that she too suffered an injury during training. "I dislocated my rib and I felt very sorry for myself," she shared. "I didn't even know that was a thing. It was hard to breathe and every time I coughed or sneezed, it was pure agony."
Thankfully, after three weeks of recovery, Roxy is back on her feet, although she does have a lump where the rib was dislocated, which she explained is just scar tissue. While this type of injury is quite common in lifts and tricks, Roxy's injury did not occur during one of these moves. "I sneezed and my whole body went into spasms. I've never felt pain like it," she continued. "It took me about 10 minutes just to get out of the car because I could barely move."
Roxy has since been given exercises to strengthen her body and prevent future injuries, but she still has some anxiety about it happening again as the lifts and tricks become more challenging as the competition progresses. And Roxy is not the only contestant to experience an injury, as Ryan Thomas was recently spotted nursing his shoulder with ice after being "wounded" during training.
In a recent post shared by his pro partner Amani Fancy, Ryan can be seen with an ice pack on his shoulder. However, Amani reassured everyone that he will be in top form for the first live show, saying, "Don't worry everyone, they're just sore." Dancing On Ice will be back on our screens on Sunday, January 14th at 6:30pm on ITV1, and fans can't wait to see all the talented celebrities take to the ice.
