In Hollyoaks next week, Frankie will receive some much-needed support from an unexpected source. A trigger warning is in place for this article as it will discuss the sensitive topic of child sexual abuse. As fans know, Frankie's twin brother JJ has been sexually abusing her, and the show is bravely shedding light on this often overlooked form of abuse within families.
Despite Frankie's clear pleas for JJ to stop, he continues to harm her, even going as far as lying and raping her after promising to change his ways. The situation only worsens when JJ physically attacks Frankie with his football boots, leading to Nancy being wrongly blamed and having to leave the house. Frankie's young cousin Oscar has caught on to JJ's deceitful nature, but Frankie begs him to keep quiet for his own safety. The two share a deep fear of the abuser and how he may retaliate.
Meanwhile, Darren, Frankie's father, is completely unaware of the abuse and finds himself getting angry with his daughter after she lashes out at JJ. But through it all, Frankie refuses to let her spirits be dampened. With the school holidays approaching, she eagerly anticipates spending time with her friend Hannah Ashworth.
Unfortunately, there is little support available for Frankie at home, so she takes matters into her own hands and visits her uncle Freddie Roscoe at the hospital. Freddie is still in a coma after being attacked by Rex last week. It is here that Frankie encounters Grace, and the two women bond over their shared experiences. Misbah Maalik gives an update that Freddie's condition remains unchanged, but Grace offers Frankie something that no one else has - a listening ear and a shoulder to lean on.
Will Frankie open up to Grace about what she's been going through? Or will Grace intuitively sense that Frankie is in need of support? We'll have to tune in to find out. Be sure to catch the next episode on Friday, July 19 at 7:30pm on Channel 4 or Monday, July 22 at 7pm on E4. And don't forget to share your thoughts and join the community by leaving a comment below.
