According to recent reports, a mother from upstate New York is facing serious allegations after it was discovered that she had kept her two-year-old son confined in a homemade cage in deplorable living conditions. The woman, identified as Naesha Lumpkin, 24, was found inside her Buffalo home with her toddler in a separate bedroom when authorities arrived with a felony arrest warrant for a previous crime.
Upon entering the residence, officials were shocked to find the young boy in what can only be described as a "make shift cage". Apparently, the cage was made out of a play pen with a piece of a crib tied down on three sides, preventing the child from standing or exiting. New York State Police have reported that the cage and the child were covered in human fecal matter, with the walls also being soiled. The child's bedding was soaked in urine and feces as well.
After being immediately rushed to Oishei's Children's Hospital, the toddler underwent a medical evaluation which revealed some disturbing findings. It was discovered that he had two fractured ribs that were in the process of healing, indicating that the injuries had occurred approximately 10 days to two weeks prior. The child also had bruises on his face and body, further raising concerns about his well-being.
Meanwhile, Lumpkin was taken into custody and charged with child endangerment. When questioned about her son's injuries, she claimed that he had fallen down the stairs sometime in late December or early January. However, she did not seek medical assistance for him following the incident. According to state police, the child was reportedly crying as a result of the fall, but Lumpkin failed to take him to a professional for proper care and treatment.
It is truly disheartening to hear about such a disturbing situation involving a young and defenseless child. We can only hope that the toddler receives the proper care and attention he deserves, while his mother faces the consequences of her actions. It is our responsibility as a society to protect and care for our children, and incidents like this serve as a reminder of the importance of speaking up and taking action when we suspect that a child may be in danger.
