Ryan Wellings is facing charges of causing the death of his partner, Kiena Dawes. The court has heard that he had a history of violence towards a previous girlfriend. Kiena, who was only 23 years old, tragically took her own life and left a note stating that she was murdered by Wellings.

Before her death, Kiena had left their eight-month-old daughter with a friend before ending her life on a railway line in July of 2022. During his trial, Wellings, who is 30 years old, admitted to assaulting a former girlfriend in 2019. He explained that he had consumed a large amount of drugs and alcohol, causing him to lose control and become violent.

Wellings pleaded guilty to battery and also admitted to damaging his ex-girlfriend's car and attempting to hit his own father during the incident. When he was arrested, he told the officer that he had been at a party and taken a lot of cocaine, admitting that he had a problem.

The court also heard that in August of 2023, Wellings had punched a friend after a night out. When questioned by his lawyer, he explained that he had lost his temper because his friend was belittling him in front of others. He has since pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm.

Judge Robert Altham informed the jury that they would need to consider whether these previous convictions showed that Wellings had a tendency to be violent. In addition to these charges, Wellings is also accused of assaulting and controlling Kiena between January of 2020 and July of 2022, which he denies.

Kiena's mother shared that her daughter, a hairdresser from Fleetwood, Lancashire, had met Wellings in January of 2020 and was swept off her feet. Within a week of meeting, Wellings had her name and face tattooed on his body and proposed marriage within three months. However, it is alleged that soon after, Wellings became physically and emotionally abusive towards Kiena.

During his testimony, Wellings revealed that he had post-traumatic stress disorder and had attempted to take his own life on five separate occasions. In 2015 or 2016, he had tried to hang himself when his twin daughters from a previous relationship were only a few years old. He also admitted to overdosing on steroids or medication four other times.

Wellings explained that his drug use was triggered by the fact that he had children but couldn't stop using drugs. He would often binge on cocaine, spending up to £400 at a time. He was prescribed anti-depressants but was unable to take them while using drugs, so he stopped taking them when he was using cocaine.

The case was adjourned until Wednesday, when Wellings, who is from Bispham, Lancashire, will continue to give his testimony.
