A man from Sydney reportedly intended to attack his family with a knife after planning it for a while.
Today, a man from Sydney is scheduled to appear in court after allegedly stabbing his mother and brother in what authorities are calling a planned attack. The incident took place yesterday evening around 5:40pm at a residence on Sydenham Road in Marrickville. Emergency services were alerted to the stabbing and arrived on the scene shortly after.

Upon arrival, NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a 25-year-old man for multiple stab wounds to his face, neck, head, and hand. He was immediately rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where he remains in serious but stable condition. A 55-year-old woman was also treated for a stab wound to her throat and was taken to the same hospital in stable condition. Thankfully, she is expected to be discharged soon, as confirmed by the police this morning.

The suspect, a 22-year-old man, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with two counts of causing wounding/grievous bodily harm with intent to murder. According to Detective Inspector Ben Kennis, the 22-year-old is the brother of the 25-year-old victim and the son of the 55-year-old victim. He also mentioned that it is believed the suspect had been planning this attack for some time.

It is reported that the suspect's father was also present in the house at the time of the incident, but was not in the room where the attack took place. He managed to escape and alert someone who then called for emergency help. Kennis shared that the father was also a potential target of the attack.

It is unclear what triggered the suspect to carry out this attack, as nothing happened prior to the incident that could have provoked it. Kennis stated that the attack seemed to have happened without any warning or provocation. He also mentioned that the family was not known to have any negative interactions with the police in the past.

The investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000. In light of this incident, the National Domestic Violence Service, 1800 RESPECT, has also been mentioned as a resource for those in need of assistance. And as always, if you are in immediate danger, please call triple zero.
