A man accused of stabbing a police officer in Sydney has been arrested and charged.
A man is set to appear in court after allegedly stabbing a police officer in the head in Sydney. The incident occurred yesterday when two officers were conducting traffic duties at the intersection of Castlereagh and Park Streets in the CBD. The male constable was approached from behind by a man at around 1pm.

According to reports, the man then proceeded to stab the officer in the head with a knife before fleeing the scene. The injured officer, along with a female constable, pursued the suspect as he ran into Hyde Park. Other officers joined the chase and instructed the man to drop the knife.

The suspect was eventually confronted by the officers in the park, still armed with the knife. To subdue him, the police used a taser and he was later arrested. The injured officer, Constable Elvis Poa, 35, was treated for two wounds to his head and taken to the hospital. Scans revealed that he had suffered two skull fractures, but he is currently in a stable condition.

The 34-year-old suspect was also taken to the hospital under police guard for assessment. After being released, he was charged with causing wounding/grievous bodily harm to a person with the intent to murder. He was refused bail and is set to appear in court today.
