A former Nintendo fan is selling their PS5 Pro to purchase the upcoming Switch 2, as shared in a reader's feature.
Which option would you prefer? A reader recently shared his reasons for not purchasing a Nintendo console since the N64 days. However, he also explains why the upcoming Switch 2 is the one that will finally bring him back into the Nintendo fold, despite some of the controversies surrounding it.

As expected, there has been a surge of negative opinions regarding Nintendo's pricing policy. In order to provide a balanced perspective, I feel compelled to share my excitement for the Switch 2. So, to the few individuals who are about to read a positive article, allow me to share my thoughts. And to the team at GC, let's come up with a catchy headline to attract more readers!

Before I dive into my convincing argument, I must make a disclaimer. It has been quite some time since I last purchased a Nintendo console. In fact, the last one I bought was the N64. That's right, I was one of those people who paid a hefty £70 for cartridges back in the 90s. But let's not dwell on that, shall we?

Technically speaking, the Wii was the last Nintendo console I bought, but it was actually a gift for my in-laws. And to my surprise, they still use it to this day. It's almost like Trigger's broom from Only Fools and Horses - they've had to replace the console and Wii-motes several times! But I still take credit for introducing them to the world of gaming.

Over the years, I have been tempted to purchase a Nintendo console on numerous occasions. For a while, I was eagerly anticipating the release of the infamous Switch Pro, which unfortunately never materialized. And I can already predict someone commenting, "But the Switch 2 is essentially the Switch Pro, so there!" Well, let's just say I have a different perspective.

Moving on, I will now reap the rewards of my unwavering patience. I will be like a PlayStation 5 owner who hasn't yet experienced the masterpiece that is The Last Of Us, The Last Of Us Remastered, The Last Of Us Remastered-Remastered, and The Last Of Us Part 1. In other words, I will essentially be purchasing the upcoming special edition of The Last Of Us and experiencing it for the first time. I must admit, I envy the person who gets to do that.

With that being said, I am in no position to discuss prices, considering I have bought The Last Of Us a total of 15 times. Ironically enough, it was the announcement of the PS5 Pro that finally pushed me to buy the Switch 2. So, how can I possibly complain about prices? Let's just say, I have no regrets.

No, it wasn't the prices that convinced me, but rather the diminishing returns. When I saw John Linneman from Digital Foundry zooming in at 400% to point out the differences in graphics, it was definitely not a good sign. It's a sad state of affairs when even the tech experts are disappointed. But let's not dwell on that, the proof is in the pudding.

After watching several hands-on previews of the Switch 2, I must say I was impressed. I had a feeling that Nintendo would utilize DLSS, considering they use an NVidia GPU. And now, they have the best AI upscaler without having to develop their own version of PSSR. I'm sure Mark Cerny must be feeling a bit envious.

I could go on and on about how stunning Mario Kart World looks, or how exciting it is to see third-party support for the Switch 2. And let's not forget about finally being able to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild and Tears Of The Kingdom. It's also worth mentioning that the build quality of the Switch 2 is a vast improvement over its predecessor. I can already hear someone shouting, "But it doesn't have an OLED screen!" Well, I could wait for the inevitable upgrade, but I think I've been patient enough.

But what really sealed the deal for me, and something that many people seem to overlook, is the mouse controls. As someone who used to primarily game on PC, I know the advantage that mouse controls offer in shooters. My only disappointment during the Direct was that Call Of Duty: Warzone wasn't confirmed. However, I did see Metroid Prime 4 being demonstrated with mouse controls, and that was enough to convince me. I'm sure Nintendo will even release branded mouse mats, and all I'll need is a food tray on my lap and I'll be good to go.

One of the coolest things about the Joy-Con is that you can simply tilt it and it goes into mouse control mode. That's just pure Nintendo magic, right? It's been a while since I've experienced that kind of innovation, so forgive me if I'm using the wrong terminology.

It almost feels like I've been punishing myself by depriving myself of Nintendo for so many years. But I prefer to look at it in a positive light. I won't have to spend money on remasters or upgraded versions of games I already own. Although, I may cave in for some N64 remakes, but other than that, it's a fresh start for me. Well, until the Switch 3 comes out, at least. Once I'm part of the Nintendo cult, they've got me for life.

Now, I understand that some people may have concerns about Nintendo's pricing strategy, and I agree that they have been guilty of some questionable practices. For instance, not including the Switch 2 Welcome Tour game seems like a bit of a troll move. However, Nintendo also showed me something that I didn't even know I wanted. And honestly, I don't think I've been this excited for a new console launch in a long time.

To justify my spur-of-the-moment purchase, I have decided to sell my PS5 Pro and switch back to a PS5 Slim. So, there you have it, GC - here's your headline: "Ex-Nintendo fan sells PS5 Pro to buy Switch 2". All things considered, I believe that the Switch 2 will be a much-needed boost for the gaming industry.

For those of you who can't seem to get past the £75/$80 price tag for games, that's perfectly fine. You can always watch The Last Of Us season 2 instead. As for me, I'll be enjoying my new Switch 2 and all the amazing games it has to offer. Cheers!
