A 27-year-old woman has recently been accused of stealing a significant amount of special-edition Bluey coins, worth tens of thousands of dollars. She was taken into custody by members of Strike Force Bandit this morning at a residence in Green Valley, located in south-west Sydney, at approximately 6:55am.
According to reports, the woman has been charged with three counts of aggravated break and enter to commit a serious indictable offence, as well as disposing of stolen property worth less than $5000. She was denied bail and is scheduled to appear at Liverpool Local Court later in the day. It is believed that the woman was responsible for driving the vehicle used in the alleged break-in.
The arrest of the woman comes after news broke that 63,000 limited-edition Bluey $1 coins, created by the Royal Australian Mint, were stolen from a warehouse in Wetherill Park on July 12. These coins, which feature designs from the beloved ABC children's show, are highly sought after by collectors and fans alike.
Interestingly, this is not the first arrest made in connection to the stolen coins. In early August, a 47-year-old man was taken into custody for his alleged involvement in the theft. Police had discovered some of the stolen coins at the home of a legitimate coin collector. Two weeks later, a 44-year-old man was also arrested at a residence in Canley Heights.
Investigators have reason to believe that the 44-year-old man worked with another individual who was employed at the warehouse, in order to carry out the theft. So far, police have managed to recover 189 of the stolen coins and have charged the two men. They are currently awaiting trial.
