Chhatarpur is experiencing heavy rain for the past three days, which has caused many of the ponds and rivers in the district to be in a state of spate. In light of this, the district administration has issued an alert to the villagers living on the banks of the larger rivers, as their water levels are rapidly increasing.
The Sujara dam has contributed to the rising water levels, given that the Lahchura dam constructed on the Dhasan river in the Harpalpur region was full to its capacity. A team of officials from the irrigation department in Mahoba opened eight of the seventeen doors of the dam and released 54,000 cusecs of water.
Assistant engineer of the irrigation department, Vinod Khara, has assured that the water level of the dam is below the danger level and there is no need to panic. On Friday night, nearly 20,000 cusecs of water were released into the Dhasan river, causing its water levels to rise. As the Lahchura dam is now full, the Arjun feeder canal is being filled with its water and nearly 600 cusecs are being released from it. Simultaneously, the main canal of the Dhasan river is being supplied with water for irrigation.
The district administration has issued an alert to those living in the villages on the banks of the Dhasan, reminding them to stay away from the river as a precaution. Fishermen and cattle grazers have also been warned to stay away from the river.
