This Thanksgiving, I'm taking the opportunity to be thankful for my family, friends, and all the connections I've made in the last year. As a special treat, I'm rewatching some of my favorite family films to get me in the mood of gratitude and appreciation.
One of my all-time favorite films is The Wiz. It's a classic! Not only do the costumes and performances stand out, but the entire movie is about Dorothy realizing how special home is and trying to get back there.
Soul Food is another great one. Mama Joe's speech is so touching, and it really emphasizes the power of family and friends. She says, "One finger won't make an impact, but you ball all those fingers into a fist, and you can strike a mighty blow. Now, this family has got to be that fist." It's such an inspiring message.
The Color Purple has such a big impact on me every time I watch it. Who can forget the dinner table scene or Celie reuniting with Nettie? Not to mention the tears!
The Best Man is a great reminder that sometimes, you can create your own family. Even though there are stumbles in the road, it's still a blessing to have such close friends.
Finally, The Nutty Professor has one of the most memorable dinner table scenes of all. The Klump family spreads always make me laugh, and it's the perfect way to end a movie marathon.
This Thanksgiving, I'm grateful for the films that remind me of the importance of family and friends.
