45 new TB & 4 leprosy cases identified in MBMC Health Dept. door-to-door campaign.
The Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) health department has recently launched a 14-day campaign between November 20 and December 6 to detect leprosy and tuberculosis (TB) cases in the twin-city. The campaign was conducted under the National Leprosy Control Programme and was aimed at identifying and treating potentially missed leprosy and TB patients.

The campaign involved 162 teams of auxiliary nurse midwives (ANM) and accredited social health activists (ASHA) volunteers, along with health inspectors, conducting door-to-door visits at 68,519 households. During the survey, 885 people with possible symptoms of leprosy and TB were tested. Four cases of non-contagious leprosy and 45 cases of TB were found, thus bringing the total number of TB patients undergoing treatment in the twin-city to 1,250 and active leprosy cases to 21.

The objective of the campaign was two-fold: to detect cases of leprosy and TB at the community level, and to provide timely treatment to those suffering from the diseases, thus saving them from physical disability or deformity. MBMC officials will continue to follow up with homes which were found locked during the campaign, and they will also visit homes which were missed out during the campaign.

The campaign has been welcomed by the residents of the twin-city, who are appreciative of the MBMC officers’ efforts to find and treat leprosy and TB cases. With this initiative, the MBMC health department is hoping to make a significant contribution in the fight against these diseases and to make Mira-Bhayandar a healthier and safer place to live.
