3 teens arrested for shooting a 9-month pregnant woman in an apparent case of mistaken identity.
Three Baton Rouge, Louisiana, teenagers are in police custody following a tragic incident on Sunday which resulted in the death of Kerisha Johnson, 36, and her unborn child. Johnson had been due to give birth within several days when she was killed in a case of mistaken identity. The shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. on North Carrollton Avenue near Renoir Avenue, after Johnson had dropped off people from a party reportedly promoted as an Easter celebration for teens. Several individuals allegedly started firing into her white sedan, believing she was the driver of a similar car that had shot into the air near the party earlier in the day. Officers found Johnson dead inside her car when they responded to reports of shots fired. Marques Porch, 19, Gregory Parker, 19, and Derrick Curry, 19, have now been charged with second-degree murder and first-degree feticide. Porch, who allegedly provided the firearms to the other two teens, was shot during the gunfire but sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The three suspects were ordered held without bond after their court hearing on Monday and Porch was “immediately terminated” from his job as a corrections employee with the West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office following his arrest. Deanna Williams, a childhood friend of Johnson said: “She was an innocent person. It was just senseless.” It is a positive step forward that the three suspects have been charged with second-degree murder and first-degree feticide, and that Porch has been removed from his role at the West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office.
