In a shocking incident that came to light on Sunday, three people including a medical student were arrested in Shivamogga for allegedly growing and selling 'ganza'. This has brought the illegal cannabis trade in Bengaluru back into focus, especially given the involvement of a medical student in the business.
The three suspects, identified as Vighnaraj, Pandidorai and Vinod Kumar, were found to be growing and selling cannabis through hi-tech farming techniques. 227 grams of ganja, 1.53 kg of raw ganja, 10 grams of charas, a small bottle containing ganja seeds and other materials were recovered from the students. An electronic weighing machine, one exit fan, six table fans, two stabilizers, three LED lights, rolling paper, two hookah pipes, 4 hookah caps, hemp stem and Rupess 19 thousand cash were also recovered during the raid.
GK Mithun Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Shivamogga, revealed to news agency ANI that the accused had been involved in the business for the last three and a half months. He further shared that Vighnaraj was growing cannabis in pots at his rented accommodation at Siva Ganga Layout Mahadevapura and was selling it to other college students without the landlord knowing.
The police are now investigating to find out if more people or students were involved in the trade. This incident has caused concern amongst authorities and they are now taking steps to curb the illegal cannabis trade in the area.
