Young Britain's Got Talent finalist Malakai has achieved a major milestone in his career by signing a record deal with Universal Music. His incredible performance of Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Pie Jesu' and his version of Puccini's 'O Mio Babbino Caro' moved the BGT judge, Bruno Tonioli, to tears.

The 14-year-old opera singer won the hearts of both viewers and judges during this year’s series and sent crowds wild after securing Simon Cowell’s golden buzzer. Thanks to Universal Music, Malakai has already hit the studio to record his debut album, 'Golden'. The album includes both classical and classic songs, including the two pieces he performed on the show.

The highly anticipated album is due to be released in July and it will be released under Universal Classics and Jazz in association with Classic FM. His first single, 'Pie Jesu', is available from June 14th.

Malakai is beyond thrilled with this opportunity. He said, “I can’t believe my dream has come true and I’m signed to the record company with the biggest opera stars in the world!” Helen Lewis, executive producer and A and R manager for Universal Classics and Jazz, had equally great things to say about Malakai, “A talent like his is incredibly rare. He has brought so much joy to the whole team at Universal Classics and Jazz, and we can be sure there are many more milestones to come for this young star.”

Since competing on BGT, Malakai has attracted international attention, even receiving a message of congratulations from the president of Sierra Leone. He also lent his voice to the soundtrack of the upcoming film, 'Maestro', about the life of Leonard Bernstein.

Malakai started singing at the early age of seven with St George’s Cathedral Choir in London and attends the state school Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School in west London where he sings with its acclaimed choir Schola Cantorum. Through performing with Schola Cantorum, he has developed his solo as well as his choral skills and performed in concerts. Malakai made his operatic debut in the Magic Flute at the age of 12.
