Alfie Lewis, a 15-year-old from the Horsforth area of Leeds, tragically passed away on Tuesday afternoon after he was stabbed. On the same day, a 14-year-old boy was arrested and charged with the murder of Alfie, as well as the possession of a knife. He is due to appear in Leeds Magistrates Court today.
At the time of the attack, Alfie had been picking up a friend's little brother from St Margaret's Primary School. Parents who had arrived to pick up their own children rushed to Alfie's aid, but he sadly succumbed to his injuries after being taken to the hospital.
The family of Alfie, who was affectionately known as 'Uncle Alfie', released a heartfelt statement about the teenager. They said: ‘I haven’t got the words to describe how devastated we all are. Alfie you were one-in-a-million, so funny and an all-round entertainer with your rapping and dancing feet. You had the biggest heart and took care of everybody around you.
‘You will never know just how much you are loved by family and friends, and you will always be our Uncle Alfie. We love you so much. Nothing will ever be the same without you. You will shine in the sky, as bright as you did in all our lives. I love you more than words can say, and you will always be with us forever. Love you Uncle Alfie.’
A 16-year-old was also arrested in connection with the attack, but has since been released without charge.
Tributes have been pouring in for Alfie, who was apparently stabbed in the stomach by a group of at least three youths. Locals have left flowers and cards near the scene of the attack, and Alfie's mum, Heather Lane, was seen paying a visit to the memorial and breaking down in tears.
The community is still reeling from the tragedy of Alfie's death. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
