118 teachers & principals honored with awards by Delhi Gov for outstanding work in education.
New Delhi: The Delhi government on Tuesday conferred awards to 118 teachers and principals for their contribution and dedication to the field of education. Each awardee was given a certificate, a cash prize of Rs 25,000, a medal and a shawl.

Preeti Sharma, an assistant teacher at a MCD school in Tajpur Khurd, was one of the awardees. She has been in the profession for 17 years and has done her best to help underprivileged children. She told PTI that she has provided her students with ration during COVID-19 times and also started a YouTube channel with the encouragement of her 7-year-old daughter.

"My daughter, who was in Class 3 in 2020, encouraged me to start the channel and today, I have thousands of followers. I was never social media-savvy, but my children taught me how to use YouTube and upload informative videos to help the children," Sharma said.

Nominations for the awards were invited from teachers and principals of DoE, MCD, NDMC, aided and private schools through online modules. Five awards were also given to teacher educators from the SCERT or DIETs.

Another awardee, Snehlata, has been an MCD school teacher for more than 20 years. She has implemented multi-faceted approaches to help her students engage in hands-on activities and experiments, and apply their learning in practical ways.

14 teachers and principals from MCD schools, 13 from private schools and one teacher from an NDMC school were given the awards. Two special "Face of DoE" awards were also given to Seema Tomar, a drawing teacher from SKV, Andrews Ganj, and Shishupal Singh, a physical education teacher.

Bijender Yadav, an assistant teacher at an MCD school in Mahaveer Enclave, said that since most of the students come from poor backgrounds, it is important for teachers to provide them with financial help and parental support to motivate them in their studies.

"This is a very noble profession and I feel very proud to be a teacher. There are several children who come from poor backgrounds and whose parents are not educated. It becomes challenging for us as we also need to provide the students that parental support to motivate them in their studies -- be it homework, the curriculum or class work," Yadav said.

The event was a reminder of the dedication and hard work of teachers across all schools, be it aided, private or MCD. It is essential for teachers to provide emotional, financial and educational support to students to ensure their holistic development.
