In a tragic incident, ten tourists lost their lives while 13 others sustained injuries as a tempo traveller veered off the road and plunged into Alaknanda river in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand on Saturday. According to officials, the victims were on their way to visit the scenic town of Chopta when the accident occurred.
Garhwal Inspector General of Police, KS Nagnyal, shared that the vehicle was carrying a total of 26 passengers, most of whom hailed from Delhi. Sadly, ten of them did not survive the accident. The vehicle had plunged about 250 meters below the road and landed on the banks of the Alaknanda river. Expressing her condolences, President Droupadi Murmu offered her prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured. Similarly, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended his sympathies to the families of the victims and prayed for the injured to recover quickly. CM Dhami, who was deeply saddened by the incident, ordered for an investigation to be conducted and for necessary treatment to be provided to the injured. He assured that the local administration and State Disaster Response Force team were working tirelessly to assist the victims.
