Zelensky wants Biden and Xi to participate in peace talks in Switzerland.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a heartfelt appeal on Sunday to US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping, urging them to participate in a peace summit planned to take place in Switzerland this June. Zelensky emphasized the importance of global cooperation and expressed his hope that the UN Charter will not suffer the same fate as the books burnt down by a Russian missile attack on a printing plant in the city of Kharkiv.

Speaking against the backdrop of the destroyed plant, Zelensky called for the support and personal involvement of Biden and Xi in the peace summit. In a video shared on the social media platform Telegram, Zelensky directly addressed the two leaders in English, emphasizing the need for their leadership and participation.

The peace summit, scheduled for June 15-16, has invited around 160 countries to discuss potential solutions for achieving lasting peace in Ukraine. However, one notable absence from the guest list is Russia, the country responsible for the invasion of Ukraine more than two years ago.

Zelensky also expressed concerns about a potential attack from Russia in northern Ukraine, following their recent offensive near Kharkiv. Military experts have warned that another Russian offensive, this time in the Sumy region, is possible. Their goal could be to use their superior manpower and resources to overstretch Ukrainian defence lines and ultimately break the front line.

Kharkiv, located only 30 kilometres from the Russian border, has been one of the cities most heavily affected by Moscow's bombing campaign since their invasion in February 2022. Zelensky's plea for support from Biden and Xi comes at a critical time as Ukraine continues to face the threat of Russian aggression.
