The future of Wilko is looking uncertain after a rescue deal has collapsed. It's reported that Poundland are now expected to buy around 100 stores, while The Range is also set to buy the Wilko brand.
Administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers are looking to save as many of its 400 stores and 12,500 employees as possible. Unfortunately, many branches have already pre-emptively started hosting closing down sales and a further 52 stores are set to close.
The deal proposed by HMV owner Doug Putman has fallen through, potentially leaving hundreds of stores without a lifeline. All staff working in the affected stores will be made redundant, and sadly further stores could close.
It's a worrying time for Wilko and its employees. If you'd like to keep up to date with the latest news, you can follow The Agency on Twitter and Facebook. You can also get The Agency articles sent straight to your device by signing up for our daily push alerts.
