Wild elephant attack; three injured

Virajpet; In two separate incidents three people were injured after they were attacked, by a wild elephant. In the first incident, Chandan (13) was injured in Bittangala, near Virajpet. It is said that Chandan is studying in the 7 standard, at Bittangala government primary school. The boy sustained injuries on head, and was shifted to the district hospital after receiving treatment at the Virajpet government hospital.  Villagers complained that a herd of 5 wild elephants were camping in the village and troubling villagers daily. Despite complaints the Forest department has not taken any action to prevent the entry of wild elephants in to human habitats.

Two women injured 
In a second incident, two women were injured, when a wild tusker attacked them. The injured are Kamala (53) and Ammalu (60), who were working in a coffee estate in Ammathi Ontiyangadi, when the elephant attacked them. Both sustained injuries on their back, chest and legs. Both have been shifted to the Madikeri government hospital and are being treated.
