West Coast hosts first Black Interior Design Conference, making its mark.
After three years, the Black Interior Designers Conference has returned to West Hollywood, California. This year marked the organization's first event on the west coast, and it was held at the 1 Hotel on September 20th - 23rd.

Black Interior Designers, Inc. was established in 2010 as an international organization for members of the professional Black Interior design community. The conference provided a supportive network for members so that they could grow both personally and professionally.

At the event, attendees were able to benefit from the mentorship of top-tier Black designers such as Justina Blakeney, Nikki Chu, Adair Curtis, Carmeon Hamilton and Brigette Romanek. It was a three-day extravaganza which included over 20 speakers, interviews, networking and other learning opportunities.

The BID Conference was created by Keia McSwain, an award-winning interior designer and the founder of Black Interior Designers, Inc. The goal was to provide a platform to share knowledge and awaken new ideas while inspiring people of all experience levels in the design industry.

On Instagram, McSwain and her team coordinated the event and featured some of the greatest talents in interior design from across the U.S. The mission of the conference was to create resources and networking opportunities for designers, both novice and experienced, so that they could be inspired by the experiences of others.

McSwain's vision is to break down barriers in the design industry and enable marginalized communities to take part in the interior design industry. She believes that minorities have been put at the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to their talent and culture, and she wants to create opportunities for them to be seen and heard.

The event focused on a variety of topics, such as brand building, virtual design, unlocking social media opportunities, and optimizing kitchen and bath design. It was an empowering event that gave attendees the chance to receive information and feel supported in their dreams of growing in the industry.
