The Election Commission has been working tirelessly to ensure a smooth and efficient counting process for the Lok Sabha and Assembly seats in Odisha. With the big day just around the corner, officials have shared that a total of 70 centres will be utilized for the counting of votes, starting at 8 am on Tuesday.

According to the chief electoral officer Nikunja Bihari Dhal, over 2.5 crore voters exercised their right to vote in the four-phase elections, resulting in an impressive turnout of 74.44 per cent. This is higher than the turnout recorded in 2019, which was 73.09 per cent. It is also worth noting that a significant number of women (75.55 per cent) and men (73.37 per cent) participated in this election.

To ensure an accurate and efficient counting process, more than 67,000 ballot units will be tallied at the 70 designated centres. This includes 1.47 lakh postal ballots for Lok Sabha elections and 1.46 lakh for assembly elections. In preparation for the scorching heat, the counting halls have been equipped with air-conditioning, backup power generators, CCTV cameras, and fire fighting teams on standby. Additionally, arrangements for drinking water and ORS have been made for the comfort of the officials and staff.

To maintain transparency and fairness, each EVM counting table will have one counting supervisor, one counting assistant, and one micro observer. This has been made possible with the appointment of 5,777 counting supervisors, 5,233 counting assistants, and 5,396 micro observers. The Election Commission has also assigned 124 special observers to oversee the counting process.

In terms of security, stringent measures have been taken with the deployment of 60 companies of central armed police force and Odisha armed police force at the counting centres. An additional 89 CAPF companies will also be present to maintain law and order after the results are announced. With all these preparations in place, the Election Commission is confident that the counting process will be carried out smoothly and without any disruptions.
