Bradley Johnson has been playing the loveable Vinny Dingle on Emmerdale since 2019, but it turns out it could have been a very different story.
The actor recently revealed to Inside Soap Magazine that he had previously auditioned for the part of Lachlan White.
"Emmerdale's always been on in the house, I've watched it from being little. It was bizarre because years ago I went for the part of Lachlan, and I was down to the final couple for it. I remember being so disheartened, because my family are such big Emmerdale fans. Although, obviously it wasn't meant to be," he said.
Things could have looked very different if Bradley had been cast as Lachlan. He was a dastardly serial killer, responsible for numerous heinous crimes, and was played by Thomas Atkinson from 2014 to 2019.
Fortunately, Bradley got the part of Vinny and has been involved in some hard hitting storylines in the four years since. These storylines included Vinny learning that Mandy wasn't his biological mother, facing abuse from dad Paul and falling in love with Liv Flaherty.
More recently, he has faced aggression from Liv's brother Aaron Dingle, who was recently brought back to the village by uncles Cain and Caleb. Aaron is adamant that he wants back the scrapyard and his home, despite the fact that he willingly passed them on to Vinny following Liv's tragic death last year.
Bradley admits that he wouldn't have been able to play Lachlan, and loves playing Vinny.
"I can't imagine playing Lachlan, and I love playing Vinny — he's brilliant," he said.
It's good to know that viewers have come to know and love Bradley as Vinny, and it could have been a very different story.
