The peaceful village of Bahraich was recently in a state of fear and chaos due to a pack of six wolves that had been terrorizing the locals in the Mahsi tehsil area. However, officials have confirmed that the last remaining wolf of the pack has been killed by the villagers in Tamachpur village of Bahraich district on Saturday night.
According to the officials, the wolf was found dead with injury marks and bleeding in the Ramgaon police station area. Upon closer inspection, it was discovered that the wolf was an adult female and not lame as previously suspected. The body of the wolf has been sent for post-mortem.
Divisional Forest Officer Ajit Pratap Singh shared, "We received a report late Saturday night stating that a wolf had been killed by the villagers in Tamachpur village. When we arrived at the scene, we found the dead wolf and a goat. Upon inquiring, we learned that the wolf had entered the village and was carrying away a goat. The villagers surrounded and killed the wolf in self-defense. The body has been taken for post-mortem."
When asked about the speculation of a "lame wolf" in the pack, the DFO clarified that there was no such thing and the reports were false. Some villagers of Tamachpur village also shared their account of the incident, stating that the wolf had tried to attack a sleeping child but was scared away by the mother's screams. It then went on to attack a goat before being killed by the villagers.
This is not the first time that a wolf has been captured or killed in the area. Earlier in September, five other wolves were captured as part of the "Operation Bhediya" campaign, which was launched after the pack of wolves had killed eight people and injured over 20 others since mid-July. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath even conducted an aerial inspection and met with the families of the victims on September 15, assuring them that the authorities will continue to work until the wolf threat is eliminated.
The "Operation Bhediya" campaign has been ongoing in Mahsi tehsil since July 17, as the pack of wolves had been terrorizing over 50 villages in the area. The recent attacks have resulted in the deaths of eight people, including seven children. However, with the successful elimination of the last remaining wolf, the villagers can now breathe a sigh of relief and continue their peaceful lives.
