Vijayanagara Celebrates Gauri-Ganesha Immersion Festival

Aigur, Oct. 5: The Gauri-Ganesha idol—installed for the 29th consecutive year by the Sri Gajanana Yuvaka Sangha at the Guligappa Community Hall in Vijayanagara, Aigur—was immersed with great devotion. Following the installation, daily rituals such as *Homa*, *Havana*, and *Puja* were performed, accompanied by the distribution of *Prasada* and community meals (*Anna-santarpane*). On the day of the immersion, the deity was placed in a grandly decorated *Mantapa* (palanquin/canopy) for the procession. As the procession moved from the Guligappa temple and returned to Aigur along the same route, devotees offered fruits and coconuts (*Hannu-Kai Puja*) to Lord Ganesha in front of their homes.

Music from a DJ and the SRK Band from Puttur added grandeur to the procession. Elders, youth, and women from the village danced enthusiastically during the event. The procession proceeded to the banks of the Chorana Hole (stream) in Aigur, where, under the leadership of priest Achyuta, final rituals were performed before the idol was immersed in the water. A community meal was organized for the devotees. Tight security arrangements were made by the Somwarpet Police Station, with committee members coordinating closely with the police. Temple committee members, festival committee office-bearers, and villagers cooperated for the success of the festival.
