Recently, it was discovered that an imposter was posing as a doctor in the dialysis unit of Rourkela Government Hospital. This raised concerns within the Health and Family Welfare department, prompting them to take action. On Monday, they issued a directive to all the chief district medical officers and public health officials to verify the credentials of doctors and specialists engaged in public-private partnership services.

In a letter addressed to the concerned parties, H&FW secretary Shalini Pandit emphasized the need for monitoring and ensuring proper payment for services such as dialysis, CT Scan, MRI, laboratory services, and PHC/UPHC management, which are being operated in districts under the PPP mode. Pandit also pointed out that it is the responsibility of the service providers to deploy qualified personnel for these services.

However, Pandit stressed the importance of regularly checking the credentials of the personnel during their contract period to ensure that they possess the required qualifications. She urged all the CDMOs, PHOs, and directors to conduct thorough checks on the doctors and specialists employed by the agencies in PPP mode. A compliance report is expected within a week.

Pandit further specified that the doctors and specialists must be physically present with their credential documents during the verification process by the CDMO, PHO, and director of the concerned health institution. This decision was made after an imposter was caught working as a doctor in the dialysis unit of RGH. The imposter, 53-year-old Padmanava Mukhi Karua, had a previous conviction for impersonating a doctor but was out on bail and managed to secure a job at RGH.

In light of this incident, the authorities have decided to take strict measures to prevent such occurrences in the future. As responsible citizens, it is our duty to ensure that only qualified and legitimate individuals are providing healthcare services to the public. Let us join hands to maintain the integrity and credibility of our healthcare system.
