Varun Dhawan's latest release 'Bawaal' has been raking in success and appreciation from fans all over the world. However, it has also received some criticism for a particular dialogue where Janhvi Kapoor likens relationships to Auschwitz. After days of silence, the Bollywood actor has finally responded to the criticism.
In a recent interview, Varun stated that Nitesh Tiwari, the director of the film, had made it very clear right at the beginning that the protagonist was a dark and tone-deaf person. He went on to say that he understands people who felt triggered after watching the scene, but questioned why the same sensitivity does not apply when watching English films.
"They are allowed to do and show everything and you will find that in a correct way. I know people who felt very triggered after watching the small scene from a recently released film but it's a scene that is very important to our culture and our country but that is okay for you. So where does the criticism go then? With us, you want to get personal. You cannot have a different yardstick to measure everyone and it should be the same," Varun said.
'Bawaal' is a romantic drama starring Varun and Janhvi, and revolves around a couple on the brink of divorce. The story follows how stories from World War II open their eyes and make them realise the love they have for each other. The movie was released on OTT directly on July 21, and has been receiving praise from critics and fans alike, calling it Varun and Janhvi's 'career best'.
