The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has taken swift action in response to a recent avalanche in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district. With 41 BRO labourers trapped under the snow, the NDRF has deployed four teams to the area. In addition, four more units are on standby, ready to assist in the rescue efforts.
NDRF Director General Piyush Anand explained that the rescue mission has been activated and the Union Home Minister has directed for a quick response. The four teams being sent to the scene are being rushed from Dehradun and Joshimath, where they were previously conducting a familiarisation exercise.
According to officials, a major landslide occurred at 5 am, hitting a camp of civil workers along the Mana GST road. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Army rescue teams quickly launched their operations, successfully evacuating 10 injured workers. They are currently receiving treatment at the medical facilities of the two forces.
Despite facing extreme weather conditions, the rescue teams are determined to locate and evacuate the remaining trapped workers. The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, has reported that 16 of the 57 labourers have been pulled out safely so far. The workers were clearing snow near the high-altitude border village of Mana when the avalanche struck their camp between Mana and Badrinath.
Mana is situated at an altitude of 3,200 metres and is the last village on the India-Tibet border, just three kilometres from Badrinath. The rescue efforts are ongoing and the NDRF, along with other forces, are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of all the trapped workers. We hope for a successful rescue and a quick recovery for those who have been injured.
