Unpleasant incident during prize distribution, DySP and police attacked

Madikeri, Oct. 3: An unpleasant incident occurred during the prize distribution, which was a black spot on the celebrations so far in the final moments of the Madikeri Dasara festival. The incident took place on Friday morning when the Madikeri DySP and police were attacked. The injured DySP Suraj was given primary treatment at the Madikeri District Hospital and admitted to a hospital in Mysore for further treatment.

The incident took place during the announcement of the results of the competition and the prize distribution after the procession of the Dashamandapams. DySP Suraj was attacked amidst the pushing and shoving and fell down from the stage, while another policeman was also attacked. A youth has been arrested in connection with this incident. Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan said that action will be taken against others involved and the Mantapa Committee that caused the riot.

Incident details

During the announcement of the verdict in the morning, a group of youths from the Karavale Bhagavathy Mantapa Committee rushed to the stage and started shouting slogans like "cheat...cheat...".

At this time, Madikeri DySP Suraj and other officers and the police stopped them and took them down from the stage with police force. After this, chaos once again arose on the stage. At this time, another youth who had climbed the stage with a group of youths attacked DySP P. Suraj and pushed him. Suraj suffered injuries on his head and legs and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mysore. The accused youth, Yakshit, has been arrested and the court has remanded the accused in judicial custody till October 16.

SP Information

Sharing information with reporters about this, District Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan said that Yakshit has been arrested under BNS Section 132 (assault on public servant) and Section 355 (drunkenness in public place) and further legal action has been taken (to the seventh page)

Police bandobast was arranged near the stage at Gandhi Maidan as a precaution against confusion and chaos during the prize distribution. At this time, Yakshit, who was in a drunken state, climbed the stage and was making a ruckus. The DySP and Sub-Inspector present at the scene climbed the stage to take him down. At this time, Yakshit pushed both of them and both of them fell down from the stage. DySP Suraj suffered injuries on his head and leg. Apart from this, he also attacked a police constable named Uday while he was being arrested and taken to the police station. He informed that a case has been registered regarding this incident as well.

Deliberate commotion - action against the committee

Every year, during the prize distribution, the Karavale Bhagavati Dasara Committee deliberately causes commotion at the prize distribution stage. To prevent such an incident from happening this time, the committee was instructed not to create unnecessary commotion in the meeting called before Dasara. But this time too, the committee did not acknowledge this and action will be taken against the committee leaders under the ‘Public Nuisance’ Act due to the commotion on the stage, the SP informed.

There should be equal prizes for everyone

Every year, there is confusion during the prize distribution. Some people charge a lot of money and create a good pavilion and get prizes. Some people make pavilions according to their ability. The process of giving prizes with the attitude of which god is better is not right. Everyone has worked hard. Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan opined that prizes should not be given to all the pavilions and cause chaos. Every year, when Dussehra approaches, the committee members forget the incident and let it float away, saying that the confusion that occurred during the distribution of prizes last time was just a minor confusion. But he said that the incident that happened this time will be recorded and the SP who will come to the district in the future will be informed about it.

Violation of the law regarding loudspeakers

During the procession, pavilions used loudspeakers at a decibel level higher than the permitted level. Some pavilions used 12 loudspeakers to make loud sounds in a small area. There is a separate decibel limit for commercial areas and residential areas. The maximum decibel limit can be allowed up to 10 decibels more than the maximum decibel limit. If this is exceeded, legal action can be taken. The DSP has direct authority in this regard and can directly report the violation to the High Court without any FIR, he said. He said that no violations were found during the procession and action will be taken soon in this regard and a report will be submitted to the High Court.
