An investigation into Atlanta Public Schools is beginning as the result of an unknown boy impersonating an eighth-grader. On Tuesday, Aug. 10, an unknown male was found to have checked into Micheal R. Hollis Innovation Academy in Atlanta. After going through the tardy process, he was escorted to a homeroom class by school employees, according to Channel 2 Action News.
The school administrators were quick to notice something strange, and questioned and searched the young man. It was then that they discovered he was in possession of “a small knife and a few bullets.” Out of an abundance of caution, APS Police were sent to the campus to search for any weapons. Fortunately, none were found.
The man was reported to have been a former student of Hollis Academy, last attending during the 2018-2019 school year. He claims that his mother had signed him into the school, and that his homelessness had led him to search for help at his former school. His identity remains undisclosed, while the Office of Student Services works to determine the best plan of action for his well-being.
Hollis Academy has engaged in community enrichment by partnering with community outreach programs, but it may not be enough to provide resources for the person in question, depending on his age. The Atlanta Mission estimates that there are roughly 10,000 unhoused people in the city of Atlanta. With such staggering numbers and limited resources, help may be hard to find.
Atlanta Public Schools is doing all they can to provide assistance to those in need. To help support the unhoused community in Atlanta, please consider donating to the Atlanta Mission here.
