In a tragic incident, two labourers lost their lives in Nuapada district, Odisha on Sunday. The cause of their deaths is suspected to be asphyxiation while they were working in a septic tank. The incident occurred at Laxmi Chhak in Khariar town during the afternoon. The deceased were identified as Basudev Bhoi and Raghumani Hati, both of whom were from the local area. According to a police officer, they were working on a project at the house of Govind Sahu.
As part of their work, one of the labourers had gone into the septic tank through a hole in order to remove the false ceiling. However, after some time had passed and there was no response from him, another worker went into the tank to check on him. Unfortunately, he too became unconscious. Govind Sahu, the house owner, explained that the first worker had fainted while inside the tank. He then called for help and the firefighters arrived on the scene.
The firefighters were able to retrieve the two workers from the septic tank and rushed them to the hospital. However, despite the efforts of the doctors, both of them were declared dead. The police have taken possession of the bodies and a post-mortem will be conducted on Monday, as stated by Dillip Kumar Sahu, the inspector in charge of Khariar police station.
