July 25th 2023.
August is here, and the Black-Owned Challenge is here to celebrate the incredible Black-owned businesses that deserve our support. Advancing Black Pathways and Official Black Wall Street are joining forces to present the Black-Owned Challenge this August.
Sponsored by JPMorgan Chase & Co, this initiative challenges Black folk to #BuyBlack all year, starting with 30 days. The organizations hope to provide not only familiarity with Black-owned businesses, but also to bring exposure to them.
To do this, Official Black Wall Street is looking forward to highlighting several Black-owned businesses across four industries: apparel and accessories, beauty, food beverages, and health and wellness. The businesses are welcome to apply before the July 28, 2023, deadline and those accepted will receive recognition, notoriety, promotional and press opportunities, free business consultation and perks from the sponsor, JPMorgan Chase & Co, a feature on their homepage, and an introduction to the OBWS community.
This initiative is a part of National Black Business Month, created in 2004 to advance policies affecting African American businesses and develop economic freedom for Black communities. This is following a time of booming Black businesses during the “golden age”, but devastating forces like the Chicago Race Riots of 1919 and the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre wiped out generations of wealth.
Black resilience continues to prevail with the rise of Black entrepreneurs today, but they still only receive 2% of our collective $1.3 Trillion buying power. That's why the Black-Owned Challenge is a shining opportunity for exposure and sales for Black-owned businesses.
