Bhubaneswar: The unfortunate death of a student from Nepal in her hostel room at KIIT University in Odisha has caused quite a stir. According to officials, two officers from the Nepal embassy in Delhi are expected to visit the university soon. They will not only investigate the death of the student, but also meet with a group of Nepali students who were reportedly kicked out of their hostel amid tension on campus.

The deceased student has been identified as Prakriti Lamsal, a third-year B Tech student at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology. The registrar of the institute confirmed this information. As the situation on campus became increasingly tense, the authorities at KIIT allegedly evicted several Nepali students from their hostel and left them at the Cuttack railway station without making any arrangements for their travel.

In light of this distressing situation, Nepal's Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli has offered some relief to the affected students. In a Facebook post written in Nepali on Monday, he stated, "We have been made aware through media and social media that a Nepali student has died in a hostel at KIIT University in Odisha and that Nepali students have been forcefully evicted. The government is taking necessary steps through diplomatic channels and is in contact with the relevant authorities."

Later that day, Oli also posted on X saying, "Our Embassy in New Delhi has dispatched two officers to counsel the affected Nepali students in Odisha. We have also made arrangements to ensure that they have the option to either stay in their hostel or return home, based on their preference."

The incident came to light after the deceased's cousin filed a complaint at Infocity Police Station in Bhubaneswar, alleging that his sister had committed suicide by hanging herself in her hostel room on Sunday. He also claimed that a male student at the university had been blackmailing his sister, which he believed led to her tragic decision.

The institute has stated that it is suspected that the girl was in a relationship with another student at KIIT, and that this may have been a factor in her suicide. The police are currently investigating the matter. This unfortunate incident has garnered a lot of attention and the authorities are taking necessary steps to ensure the well-being of the students affected by this tragedy.
