In a recent operation, Tasmania police confiscated more than half a kilo of ice and an estimated $100,000 in cash believed to be linked to criminal activity. The targeted operation led to the arrest of a 52-year-old man from West Ulverstone on Thursday. Upon searching the car he was driving, officers discovered a backpack containing 135 grams of methylamphetamine and $3225 in cash. The passenger, a 36-year-old man from Ulverstone, reportedly fled the scene.
However, the suspect later turned himself in at Devonport Police Station and has since been charged with trafficking in a controlled substance and possessing a controlled drug. Further investigations led to the discovery of a significant amount of methylamphetamine, cocaine, MDMA, and stolen property in the Ulverstone area.
During the searches, police seized approximately $100,000 in cash, believed to be proceeds of crime, as well as 527 grams of methylamphetamine, 74 grams of cocaine, and 154 grams of MDMA. A subsequent search of a private residence in West Ulverstone resulted in the seizure of an additional $4910 in cash, also suspected to be proceeds of crime.
Both suspects were taken into custody and are scheduled to appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court today.
