Two individuals, a school employee and a contractor, have been accused of stealing $1.4 million from various schools in Sydney.
Two men, a school employee and a building company director, have been apprehended by the police for allegedly stealing a whopping $1.4 million that was meant for schools in Sydney. This incident came to light when the NSW Department of Education, with the help of the police, launched a major investigation in April. The focus of this investigation was to determine if a school employee had misused funds that were allocated for the maintenance and construction of schools in Guildford and Revesby.

According to reports, the said employee had some assistance from a man he knew, who was a director at a building company, to carry out this fraudulent activity. Together, they were able to make fraudulent claims for almost $1.4 million from the Department of Education. These claims were made through 86 separate invoices between August 2022 and November 2024.

In the early hours of this morning, the police conducted a raid at three different locations in Georges Hall, Yagoona, and Revesby. During the raid, they found a sum of $42,400 in cash, a bulletproof vest, and luxury watches. As a result, a 37-year-old man was arrested from the Georges Hall address, while a 38-year-old man was apprehended from Yagoona.

The suspects were then taken to Bankstown Police Station, where they are currently in the process of being charged with over 60 offenses each. These charges include dishonestly obtaining financial advantage, attempting to dishonestly obtain financial advantage, agent corruptly receiving benefit, and direct/participating in a criminal group. The police have stated that the suspects will be refused bail and are expected to appear in Bankstown Local Court today.

The investigation into this matter is still ongoing, and the police are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist with the case.
