In a tragic incident, the bodies of two individuals were discovered under the Khilua-Petiabada bridge in Nandapur on Sunday. The victims were identified as Bhagaban Khara, a 50-year-old home guard from Nila Doraput village, and Ugrasen Pangi, a 33-year-old man from Hikimput. The discovery was made by the police on the Nandapur-Handiput MDR-55 road in Koraput district.
According to the authorities, Khara had just finished his duty on Saturday and was waiting for a bus at the Nandapur bus stand. It was then that Pangi, who was on his way back from Damanjodi on his motorcycle, offered him a ride. The two men left Nandapur around 8 pm, but they never made it back home. This prompted their family members to file a missing person report at the Nandapur police station.
A search operation was immediately launched by the police, who eventually discovered a helmet floating under the Khilua-Petiabada bridge. This led them to the location where the bodies of Khara and Pangi, along with the motorcycle, were found submerged in the water. SDPO Debendra Mallick, along with other police officers and fire service personnel, worked together to retrieve the bodies and the motorcycle from the water.
Based on the evidence found at the scene, the police believe that the two men may have been involved in a road accident. This is supported by the discovery of a broken motorcycle headlight on the road. The entire community is shocked and saddened by this tragic event, and the loss of these two individuals has left a deep impact. The authorities are currently investigating the incident further to determine the exact cause of the accident. Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of Bhagaban Khara and Ugrasen Pangi during this difficult time.
