Two boys drowned while another was rescued at Takera dam.
In Rourkela, a tragic incident occurred at the Takera dam on Brahmani river, near Raghunathpali police limits, last Saturday. Two young boys lost their lives while another miraculously escaped while taking a bath in the dam. It was reported that Zareeb Khan, Rajkumar Mahato, and Bhabesh Prasad, all 19 years old and students of Municipal College in Rourkela, had decided to go for a swim at around 1pm.

Bhabesh, who was able to make it out of the water, immediately sounded the alarm when he saw his two friends struggling to stay afloat. The locals rushed to help, but unfortunately, their efforts were in vain. The fire department was then alerted at 3:45pm and they quickly arrived at the scene. Despite their best efforts, they were only able to recover the bodies of Khan and Mahato, one after the other, in the span of an hour.

The area where the boys were bathing has been marked as a hazardous zone due to its deep waters of over 50 feet and a rocky riverbed beneath. This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of being cautious and aware of potential dangers, especially when it comes to natural bodies of water. Our hearts go out to the families and friends of the two young boys who lost their lives in this tragic accident.
