In an incredible display of technological prowess, an automated track device in Uttar Pradesh's Mirzapur prevented a potential train disaster. As the Seemanchal Express passed over a heat detection equipment, the device sent out an alert to railway officials, warning them of a dangerously hot wheel axle in one of the coaches.
According to railway officials, the alert was received in real-time from the hot axle box detector at Chunar station. "Around 10 am on Saturday, as the train was passing through the station, our team detected a very high temperature in the wheel axle of sleeper coach number S-3," explained Shashi Kant Tripathi, the Chief Public Relations Officer for North Central Railway, in an interview with PTI.
Taking swift action to avert any potential danger, the train was immediately stopped at the next station, Jigna. Passengers were safely relocated to other coaches before the affected coach was detached from the train. Once the Seemanchal Express reached Prayagraj, a new coach was attached to continue the journey.
Thanks to the timely alert from the hot axle box detector, a potential disaster was avoided. However, the incident did cause a delay of five hours for the train. "On the railway track, there are several points where a device called a hot axle box detector is installed," explained Chand Mohammed, the National Working President of the All India Railway Track Maintainers Union. "This device measures the temperature of the axle and provides an alert when necessary. In this case, the device at Chunar station did its job perfectly, and corrective measures were taken immediately," he added.
Thanks to the quick thinking and advanced technology, what could have been a devastating train accident was averted. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of constant monitoring and maintenance in ensuring the safety of train travel.
