In a tragic incident, four individuals lost their lives due to lightning strikes in different parts of Odisha, as reported by a police officer on Monday. The deceased were identified as Sanyashi Sahu, Lambodar Panigrahy, Sanjay Gouda, and Dugun Pradhan, hailing from Ganjam and Khurda districts.
According to the officer, Sahu and Pradhan were selling toys in Pattapur when a sudden thunderstorm and heavy rainfall forced them to seek shelter near a tree. Unfortunately, lightning struck them during this time, rendering them unconscious. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in Digapahandi, however, the doctors declared them dead upon arrival.
Ajay Kumar Swain, the inspector in charge of Pattapur police station, shared, "We found them in an unconscious state and immediately took them to the hospital, but unfortunately, they could not be saved."
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, Sandhyarani Singh, inspector in charge of Badagarh police station, reported that Panigrahy was also struck by lightning on the same day. He was immediately rushed to the Badagarh hospital, but the doctors were unable to save him.
Similarly, Sanjay Gouda, who was near his village when lightning struck, was rushed to the sub-divisional hospital in Hinjili. However, the doctors declared him dead upon arrival, according to Srinibash Sethi, the inspector in charge of Hinjili police station.
The authorities are deeply saddened by these unfortunate events and are urging people to take necessary precautions during thunderstorms to avoid such tragedies.
