March 20th 2024.
Early this morning, a van crashed on the eastbound portion of the M26, causing major disruption just outside of London. Scenes of Crime Officers were called to the scene at around 1am to begin their investigation.
As of now, the entire eastbound stretch of the M26 has been closed, spanning from the M25 junction 5 near Sevenoaks to the M26 junction 2A near Wrotham Heath. This means that the short motorway is essentially inaccessible to drivers. In response, National Highways has set up a diversion that avoids the motorway altogether, redirecting traffic on the carriageway from London to Kent.
According to their website, there is no estimated time for when the carriageway will reopen. The investigation is still ongoing and the area needs to be cleared and recovered, which is expected to impact this morning's rush hour traffic. The situation is constantly evolving, so be sure to check back for updates.
