In a small town in Victoria, a brave woman found herself in a terrifying situation when a man tried to abduct her. The incident, which was caught on CCTV, showed the stranger grabbing hold of the 27-year-old and attempting to force her into his car while they were on Forest street in Whittlesea.
Luckily, the woman managed to break free from the attacker's grasp and ran away from the scene. The man then quickly drove off in his Ute around 6:30 pm last night. The woman's screams were heard by her neighbors, who were understandably concerned about the situation.
Only 20 minutes before this incident, 15-year-old Ally Hawking and her younger cousin, Zoe, were playing with their scooters on Oak Bank Boulevard when the same man approached them. He asked for directions to Kinglake and then got uncomfortably close to the girls, even opening the back door of his car and telling them to come look at maps. Luckily, the girls were able to leave and were safely walked home by a kind stranger.
Ally shared her experience with 9News, saying, "I was very scared, and I felt nauseous after it." Her mother, Amy Hawking, also spoke about the incident, saying that they were all very worried and couldn't sleep that night. It's a terrifying thought to imagine what could have happened if the girls hadn't been able to get away from the stranger.
Thankfully, the police were able to track down the Mitsubishi Ute and pull it over along the Midland highway in Shepparton at 9 am today. The driver, a 39-year-old man from Mill Park, has been arrested and is currently being questioned about the incidents.
Ally's mother expressed her relief that the man was caught, saying, "It's horrible how it's affected us, and he didn't even get them. If he had managed to get one of them in the car, it's sickening." The community of Whittlesea is now on high alert, and no charges have been laid yet.
