In a grand ceremony at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will proudly unveil three new naval combatants — INS Surat, INS Nilgiri and INS Vaghsheer — that are equipped with cutting-edge technology. These mighty warships are sure to enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Navy and mark a significant step towards India's goal of becoming a global leader in defence manufacturing and maritime security.
Among these three impressive vessels, INS Surat is the fourth and final ship of the P15B Guided Missile Destroyer Project. This state-of-the-art destroyer is one of the largest and most sophisticated in the world, boasting advanced weapon-sensor packages and network-centric capabilities. It also has the ability to operate a variety of helicopters, including Chetak, ALH, Sea King, and the newly inducted MH-60R.
The second ship, INS Nilgiri, is the first of the P17A Stealth Frigate Project. Designed by the Indian Navy's Warship Design Bureau, it incorporates advanced features for enhanced survivability, seakeeping, and stealth. This next generation indigenous frigate is equipped with eight BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles and other advanced weaponry and systems.
Completing the trio is INS Vaghsheer, the sixth and final submarine of the P75 Scorpene Project. This impressive vessel is a testament to India's growing expertise in submarine construction and has been built in collaboration with the Naval Group of France.
In addition to the commissioning of these naval combatants, PM Modi will also inaugurate the Sri Sri Radha Madanmohanji Temple in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. This nine-acre project by ISKCON includes a temple with various deities, a Vedic education centre, museums, an auditorium, and a healing centre. Its aim is to spread the teachings of the Vedas and promote universal brotherhood, peace, and harmony.
