To prevent dropouts in Ganjam district, Odisha plans to implement enrolment fees.
In Chhatrapur, there has been a concerning trend of students dropping out of school in Ganjam district. Despite efforts from authorities to address this issue, the number of dropouts is gradually increasing. According to data on the 'Prabandh' portal, 1,327 students between the ages of 14 and 18 have left school. However, sources say that the actual number may be higher than reported.

The report on school dropouts is compiled by officers in the district administration. In response to this growing problem, the Odisha School Education Programme Authority is focusing on enrolling these students in special schools once again. The Mass Education department has approved the enrollment of these students in the State Institute of Open Schooling study centers for the 2024-25 academic year.

These study centers are located in government high schools in the district headquarters and blocks. In order for these students to take their Board exams, they must attend a Personal Contact Program at these centers. To facilitate this, a letter was sent by Yamini Sarangi, the project director of the state School Education Programme, to the district education officer in Ganjam. The DEO was requested to submit a report on this matter promptly. As a result, the DEO has issued a letter to all SIOS study centers and principals of government high schools, providing them with necessary instructions.

The course is scheduled to take place from September to November at the study centers. However, there will be a fee charged to the students for enrolling in these centers. The fee for male students in the general category is Rs2,360, while female students will be charged Rs2,110. For SC, ST, and persons with disabilities, the fee is Rs1,910.

Furthermore, all study centers have been instructed to establish book banks. The focus is on motivating students to return their textbooks to the study centers once they have completed their studies. The schools have been asked to store these books in the book banks.

It is important to note that there are various reasons why children drop out of school. Unfortunately, once they leave school, there is no effort made by the government to bring them back at the primary level. Now, in an attempt to help these students, a fee will be charged for their education and efforts are being made to retrieve the textbooks that were allotted to them.
