TMC put safety measures in place for a safe Ganeshotsav celebration.
The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is fast approaching and the streets of Mumbai are bursting with color and devotion. The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) is taking all the necessary steps to ensure a safe and enjoyable celebration. TMC Commissioner Abhijit Bangar recently convened a meeting of representatives from Public Ganeshotsav Mandals, TMC Officers, Traffic Police officers, Mahavitaran officials, and Torrent Company representatives at the Narendra Ballal Auditorium at TMC headquarters.

At the meeting, Bangar emphasised the importance of Ganesh Mandals refraining from tapping into street pole power for illumination and instead opting for temporary electric meters to ensure safety. He also directed the authorities to enable unregistered Ganesh Mandals to apply online for mandap permissions and process applications on the same day they are received. The municipality has set up artificial lakes to avoid pollution of Thane's lakes due to idol immersion and similar artificial lakes are planned to be established within the municipal area this year.

Bangar also mandated the placement of boards near each artificial pond to indicate the allowable idol size for immersion and the deployment of 24-hour security to deter unsupervised swimming by children. He directed that all pond-related works should be completed half a day in advance and instructed the power distribution department to station a team along the route of Ganesh Murti arrival and immersion due to elevated power lines.

The commissioner further recommended the deployment of lifeguards near artificial ponds and suggested the introduction of a window scheme to streamline the process of temporary power connections. Disputes between Mandals, municipal authorities, and the police concerning the refunding of deposits for temporary power connections were discussed. Mahavitaran officials defended their position, while representatives from Ganesh Mandals asserted that their experiences contradict the officials' assertions. Bangar recommended a rectification process for defective meters and prompt reimbursement for those without payment issues.

With Ganesh Chaturthi just around the corner, the citizens of Mumbai are eagerly awaiting the festivities and TMC is making sure the celebrations go off without a hitch.
