Three music legends, Johnny Gill, Bootsy Collins, and Hezekiah Walker, will receive recognition at the 2024 Black Music Honors.
For the 9th year in a row, the Black Music Honors ceremony is set to celebrate and recognize the talents of some of the greatest names in urban music. This year, the spotlight will shine on the incredible achievements of Johnny Gill, Patrice Rushen, Bootsy Collins, and Hezekiah Walker. The event will take place at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, GA on Saturday, May 18th.

The 2024 Black Music Honors promises to be a night to remember, filled with electrifying performances, inspiring speeches, and unforgettable moments that highlight the very best of Black culture. Returning to their roles as mistress and master of ceremonies, actress/singer LeToya Luckett and comedian DeRay Davis had such a blast co-hosting last year's ceremony that they couldn't resist doing it again.

Founder and Executive Producer Don Jackson expressed his excitement for this year's event, saying, "For the past 9 years, Black Music Honors has been dedicated to supporting and celebrating the amazing artists who have brought joy to millions." He went on to say, "Our honorees this year are true trailblazers and deserve to be recognized for their incredible contributions. We are incredibly proud to shine a light on these icons who have remained steadfast in their careers, from humble beginnings to decades of success. Their lives and stories are a vital part of the rich tapestry of Black music, which has had a profound impact on the world."

One of the things that sets Black Music Honors apart is its commitment to acknowledging and honoring entertainers who have paved the way for others, often without receiving the recognition they deserve from major award shows. While Hezekiah Walker has been honored with two Grammy awards for his gospel music and Bootsy Collins won a Grammy in 2002 for Best Music Video, Johnny Gill and Patrice Rushen have been nominated multiple times but have never taken home the coveted trophy.

The highly-anticipated televised special will be filmed in May but won't be aired until the following month, in honor of Black Music Month. Viewers can tune in to the Stellar Network on Saturday, June 1st at 8 pm EST to catch the award show, with a rebroadcast at 10 pm EST and national broadcast syndication from June 8th to June 30th. Additionally, Bounce TV will air the ceremony on Wednesday, June 19th at 9 pm EST.

Don Jackson concluded by saying, "We are thrilled to bring even more visibility to these incredible icons who have remained true to their roots and have achieved such incredible success. Their lives and stories are a crucial part of the beautiful tapestry of Black music, which has left an indelible mark on the globe." This year's Black Music Honors is sure to be an unforgettable night honoring some of the greatest names in urban music and their lasting legacies.
