The WWE's worst match could have been avoided if bosses hadn't forced a change.
Next up in the world of WWE, the clash between The Undertaker and Goldberg in 2019 left fans feeling extremely disappointed. The highly publicized bout at Super ShowDown in Saudi Arabia was met with criticism from both fans and critics. To make matters worse, it almost resulted in a life-threatening injury for The Undertaker after Goldberg, who suffered a concussion early on, almost dropped him on his head.

Both men have spoken out about the match not going as planned, and in an exclusive interview with The Agency, former WWE superstar Elias revealed that the match wasn't even supposed to happen in the first place. Instead, he was told that he would be working with The Undertaker at the show.

"We did a segment on Monday Night Raw where I sang a song and he came out and Tombstoned me. It was a whole thing," Elias explained. "I remember Vince [McMahon] saying, 'Hey, you're gonna be working with Taker.' Taker pulled me aside and said, 'Hey man, we're gonna go do some business at Saudi, we're gonna have some fun.'"

Elias, now known as Elijah after being fired by the company in September 2023, was excited about the opportunity to work with The Undertaker. They had previously worked together on Raw and in house shows, but Elias was hoping for a longer storyline that unfortunately never came to fruition.

"I think they called in Goldberg and they had that infamous match in Saudi. And that match is what it is, whatever," Elias said. "My personal opinion is, it would have gone way better with me and [Undertaker] and a lot safer, probably! But that's how history goes sometimes."

The storyline between Elias and The Undertaker was meant to kick off on the Raw after WrestleMania 35, when Elias was laid out by the Hall of Famer. This was intended to lead to an extended program between the two.

Elias and The Undertaker have always had a close relationship, with fans even going wild when a photo surfaced of them working out together at a gym. "The picture that surfaced was actually me and him working out together at a gym in Saudi, I think! So, I don't know how that picture surfaced relatively recently," Elias said. "But The Undertaker is a guy who would always say, 'There's something to you, man. There's some quality about you that's got to be on TV.'"

Another potential rival for Elias was John Cena, who he had worked with a couple of times, including at WrestleMania 35. However, this also never resulted in a longer program between the two.

"I had a million ideas of how to do that. In fact, I know that he personally had fought for that a few times with me," Elias recalled. "But due to random decisions along the way, things don't happen. And you just gotta make the best of what comes your way. I always tried to do that, no matter what, whether I was putting up a two-minute segment or 20 minutes in a match or whatever."
