The UK's worst city for commuters has been identified, and it's not London.
When it comes to commuting, we all have our own personal "best" and "worst" cities. And while many may assume that London takes the cake for the worst commuter city in the UK, recent rankings by Capital on Tap have revealed a different story. After analyzing 30 of the most populated cities across the UK, another city has claimed the top spot.

Surprisingly (or perhaps not so surprisingly), Edinburgh has been named the worst commuter city in the UK. This city has the highest average commute time and the most days spent traveling to work. On average, people in Edinburgh spend a whopping 11.52 hours per week commuting and around 75 days per year. However, one silver lining is that the monthly cost of a travel pass in Edinburgh is lower than other cities on the list, coming in at £59.93.

Coming in a close second is London, with a monthly travel pass costing more than triple that of Edinburgh's at an astonishing £182.28. According to the data, the average Londoner spends around 51 days commuting per year and roughly 7.83 hours per week.

In third place is Wolverhampton in the West Midlands, where the average person spends £60 on a monthly travel pass, 7.3 hours per week commuting, and around 47 days per year. Interestingly, the West Midlands dominates the top five rankings, with Coventry and Stoke-on-Trent rounding off the list at fourth and fifth place, respectively.

While both cities have the same average commute time and days per year, Stoke-on-Trent's monthly cost for a travel pass is nearly £15 higher than that of Coventry's. However, Coventry ranks higher on the happiness index, making it a slightly more desirable city for commuters.

But let's not forget, London did make it onto the list, proving that even with its expensive travel costs and long commute times, it is still a top contender for the worst commuter city in the UK.

On the other hand, the research also revealed the "best" commuter cities in the UK, with Belfast taking the top spot. This city boasts only 4 days spent commuting per year, followed by Sunderland at 33 days. The rest of the "best commuter city" rankings are made up of Leeds, Kingston-Upon-Hull, and Sheffield.

Interestingly, the UK's cheapest commuter town, Peterborough, did not make an appearance on either list. However, for those interested, the average house prices in some of the cheapest London commuter towns include Peterborough, Cambridgeshire at £250,492 and Purfleet-On-Thames, Essex at £253,952.
