The Supreme Court registry has denied an urgent hearing of Kejriwal's request for an extension of his interim bail.
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court registry denied an urgent request from Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to extend his interim bail by seven days for medical tests. The registry stated that since Kejriwal was given the option to seek regular bail from the trial court, his plea was not admissible. This decision was made after a vacation bench, consisting of Justices JK Maheshwari and KV Viswanathan, acknowledged the arguments put forth by senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, who was representing the chief minister. The bench also noted that the Chief Justice of India (CJI) would have the final say on whether or not to list Kejriwal's interim plea, as the judgement for the main matter was still pending.

In his plea filed on May 26, Kejriwal requested an extension of his interim bail by seven days in order to undergo various medical tests, including a PET-CT scan. He explained that he had experienced sudden and unexplained weight loss, along with high ketone levels, indicating potential kidney problems, serious heart conditions, and even cancer. The chief minister also stated that he would surrender to jail authorities on June 9 instead of the previously scheduled date of June 2.

The Supreme Court had granted Kejriwal 21-day interim bail on May 10, allowing him to campaign for the Lok Sabha polls. However, the court had also instructed him to surrender on June 2, a day after the seventh and final phase of the election. The case involves allegations of corruption and money laundering in the implementation of the Delhi government's now-defunct excise policy for 2021-22.
